Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

New York

Hello, I am Dr. Daphne Wang

I take a warm, collaborative approach to care—one grounded in truly getting to know each patient. By pairing this understanding with clinical expertise, I develop thoughtfully tailored treatment plans that reflect and respect each individual’s unique story.

I am a double board-certified psychiatrist in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry. My training enables me to view patients through a developmental lens, considering the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that shape their experiences. I work with individuals across the lifespan—from childhood through adulthood—and offer medication management, psychotherapy, or an integrated combination of both. My approach to medication is careful and conservative, with a strong emphasis on incorporating therapeutic interventions whenever appropriate.

I have a particular interest in supporting children and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, and the challenges associated with the transition into adulthood. I also specialize in the treatment of insomnia and provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), an evidence-based approach shown to improve sleep quality and overall well-being.

In addition, I am fluent in Mandarin and have extensive experience working with Chinese-speaking patients. I prioritize culturally responsive, culturally informed care, and strive to create an environment in which patients feel deeply understood and supported.

Above all, it is a privilege to support patients during meaningful and often vulnerable moments in their lives.

I am licensed to treat patients residing in New York.

Services

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation

The initial evaluation is the first step in your treatment journey. During this session, I will focus on getting to know you and understanding your goals for care. We will review your medical, psychiatric, and family history, as well as your current concerns, past treatments, and relevant aspects of your life experience. This comprehensive assessment helps guide thoughtful recommendations for next steps, whether that includes psychotherapy, medication management, or a combination of both. The consultation may also serve as a second opinion if you are already engaged in treatment.

For pediatric patients, the session is typically structured to support each family member’s perspective. When appropriate, I will meet individually with the child first, followed by separate time with the parents, and then bring everyone together to discuss impressions and collaboratively determine next steps.

Medication Management

When medication is indicated, I work collaboratively with you to explore options informed by the latest scientific evidence, while carefully considering your individual needs and priorities. We will meet regularly to monitor your progress, address any concerns, and make thoughtful adjustments to your treatment plan as needed.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a powerful and effective way to deepen self-understanding and create meaningful change, especially during times when you may feel “stuck” or uncertain about how to move forward. Whether you are working through past trauma, seeking greater self-awareness, or navigating life’s challenges, I offer psychotherapy for adults and children, as well as collaborative work with families to support growth and healing.

CBT-I

CBT-I is a structured, evidence-based treatment designed to address the underlying thoughts and behaviors that contribute to insomnia. This approach focuses on developing sustainable sleep habits through techniques such as sleep scheduling, stimulus control, and cognitive restructuring. Treatment is typically short-term, often lasting 6–8 sessions, and involves active participation, including sleep tracking and practicing strategies between sessions. Most patients experience significant and lasting improvements in sleep quality and overall well-being.

Care Coordination

When appropriate, I collaborate with your child’s school, therapist, and other healthcare providers to ensure a cohesive and well-integrated approach to care. This coordination helps align treatment strategies, enhance communication, and provide comprehensive support across all areas of your child’s life.
